Prilosec is utilized for treating heartburn or irritation with the esophagus caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It may also supply for short-term treating ulcers of the stomach or small intestines. It may also be used with certain antibiotics to treat ulcers with the small intestines and aid the prevention of them from coming back. It may also be used to help remedy conditions that cause one's body to produce excessive stomach acid (eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome). Prilosec is really a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by lowering the level of acid stated in the stomach.
